Calm Black: A Modern Residence Designed by Yuan Qi Lu

A Contemporary Metropolis Style Home with a Touch of Elegance

In response to the owner's preference for modern style, designer Yuan Qi Lu has created "Calm Black," a stunning residence that combines fashion and functionality. With its unique use of materials and colors, this design sets itself apart from others in the industry.

The fundamental tone of "Calm Black" revolves around three colors: black, grey, and white. These colors are interspersed with various materials such as concrete, iron, titanium plating metal, marble, and natural cultured stone. The result is a fashionable color palette that exudes sophistication and elegance. The clever use of these materials also allows for flexible functional separation without interrupting the spatial continuity.

What sets "Calm Black" apart is its ability to create a fashionable space without feeling icy or sharp. In the public areas, the designer has incorporated concrete and iron pieces with different materials, showcasing a gradual color spectrum. The curved wall surfaces and cambered black lines on the edge of the ceiling add a touch of artistic flair.

One of the standout features of this design is the titanium plating metal coated structure in the shape of an arch above the dining table. This bold and unique element not only separates different spaces but also diminishes the presence of beams, creating a more open and inviting atmosphere.

The realization of "Calm Black" involved meticulous attention to detail. The designer carefully defined the different functions of the public space in an introverted manner. The gray cultured stone paved entryway sets the theme for the space, while the elevated study floor features a parapet made of quartz stone with intricate black grain on a white background. These height differences and low stone walls effectively separate the space without blocking the flow.

To enhance the visual spaciousness, the designer replaced traditional bookcases with simple black iron pieces. This minimalist approach not only maximizes space but also adds a touch of elegance to the overall design.

With a total area of 99 square meters and three rooms, "Calm Black" offers a contemporary metropolis style living experience. The designer has created a dynamic and versatile space by incorporating multiple material and color changes. The rich detail changes throughout the design add depth and character to the overall atmosphere.

One of the key aspects of "Calm Black" is its ability to facilitate interaction among family members. The designer cleverly connects the semi-open kitchen with the living room, study, and dining table through a bar counter design. This allows family members to easily interact with each other even when they are in different areas of the house.

The living room and study area serve not only as family leisure spaces but also as display areas. The marble TV wall with storage and display functions, as well as the iron shelf with lighting, transform the public area into an art gallery. The owner's personal favorites become exhibits, adding a unique touch to the overall lifestyle of the home.

"Calm Black" is located in New Taipei City and was completed within a specific timeframe. The design was driven by extensive research and a desire to create a space that maximizes functionality within limited space conditions. The use of concrete walls, arch modeling, elevated floors, and quartz stone low walls effectively divide the public areas while maintaining a consistent theme.

Overcoming the challenge of modifying the abrupt beam in the interior space was a key task for the designer. By utilizing multiple materials, arc ceiling outlines, and arch modeling, the heavy beam columns in the public area and daughter's room were elegantly decorated, adding a touch of modern sophistication to the overall design.

"Calm Black" is a testament to the designer's vision and creativity. With its contemporary metropolis style and attention to detail, this residence offers a unique and elegant living experience. The design has been recognized for its excellence and was awarded the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2023 in the category of Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design.
